traveling to florida

Has anyone out there worked as a travel nurse in Florida? My husband and I would really like to go there, but have not heard good things about staffing and the general treatment of nurses by management in the state. A Florida license is kind of a pain to get...so is the game worth the candle? Please respond!

I live in Florida and we get all kinds of travelers.

Can you possibly reccommend some hospitals in the Miami region (1st choice) or Tampa (2nd) or Fort Lauderdale? Or maybe others> Ortho truama nurse here looking for clean new progressive hospital -any infor would be great! (From canada)

hello everyone....

I am a recent grad and i will have my 1 years experience in tele/cardiac stepdown unit in jan and i am very anxious to travel about in south florida pref the ft lauderdale area. I am single, 26, and love to live my life and get all the exp while i can! I take my job very serious, but when i am not working i like to go out and about meet new people. do yall have any suggestions of which hospital to work at and where to live and/or which agency to start with? also has anyone done nursing in the bahamas? i am also very interested in that as well. thanks for your advice...............

I have worked (In ICU) at Broward General in Fort Lauderdale (good nurse to pt ratio in ICU but horrible on the Floors), Cleveland Clinic in Weston (nice for the most part) and Florida Medical Center in Ft Lauderdale (not good)

I have been working in Florida for over 10 years, I will list the hospital I consider good/bad and "OK"

OK

You mentioned the nurse to patient ratio on the floor is "horrible." Do you happen to know the specifics for medsurg?

On the IRCU (which is where the long term vent patients are) it is 4:1 Which means you can have two vents plus 2 other patinets.

The other floors (5 south tower, 6 south tower) that are med surg it's more like 8:1. I was floated to tele one and had 9 patients. There were two PCA's for the entire floor (about 48 patients) One patient had just come from the cath lab and was having problems. Three patients were total care. One patinet was going through DT's (BG is the big county hospital, so you get a lot of DT's, drug overdoses etc..)

At Cleveland Clinic when I floated to tele I would get 8 patients, but I had a PCA.

At Winter Haven Hospital it's 12 patients for one RN and one LPN.

Lakeland regional med/surg is 4:1 with once PCA for 16 patients.
