for those of you who have traveled to DC can you tell me what company you've used. I am looking to travel in July and I am not finding many openings in the DC area? If you've traveled there what hospitals did you work in?

I am at Washinton Hospital Center, I work on Medical Cardiology. I'm with Cirrus Medical Staffing. First, I had to take a pay cut just to get housing that I consider decent- I am not willing to live in an old sucky building on the 9th floor for 3 months. I am at the Reserve at Eisenhower in Alexandria- very nice. Not in walking distance to much- except the Metro. I know that American Mobile is used for the area- you will find that the "Big" companies can get you pretty much anywhere, but they pay somewhat lower. I found that American Traveler who I also have applied to has a contract with the hospital here in Alexandria and puts their travelers in a place called Post Pentagon Row- apartments. They are so cool- it is like a Sqare of Shopping and restaraunts with an outdoor ice skating rink in the center. The apartments are on top of the shops. there is underground parking and it is next to a VERY nice Shopping mall. 4 levels with Nordstrom and Macy's as the department stores. If I weren't already moved into my 4th floor apartment I would look into moving there. Probably very expensive, but if the company is footing the bill, I would go for it.

Also, Washington Hospital Center is very largely made up of travel nurses. The travel nursing office- yes they have a whole department for travel nurses- says that they use about 20-22 different companies for their travel nurses. The contact person is Marcia McGlamary, RN. ([email protected]) I am sure she could give you information on which companies they use if you are interested in that hospital.

I'm going to Inova Alexandria MSICU with On Assignment. I was with World Health but they do not have much of anything in VA and what they had paid very poorly. VA is a compact state which makes my life much easier since my original license is TN. I worked with a lot of nurses in Cincinnati who were with OA and they had nothing but good things to say about the agency. Heidi is my recruiter and I've liked her a lot. I'm looking forward to this.

I worked with AMobile (but definitely wouldn't rec.) at Inova health systems. It is a lg chain, very friendly. I worked at one of the smaller hospitals. I give them high marks. I am with a great agency now, it is smaller. check them out. Premier Healthcare Profess, out of Atlanta. I stayed in dc for over 1 yr and also worked some in baltimore which was great also. FUN city!
