Hi there, Just looking to have a few questions answered about this subject.
1)How much can the travelers make compared to the regular staff nurse,I know that Ca Corrections nurse make 7500 a month to start( I know, this includes the bonuses). I am hoping around $42/hr +. Also i heard that in california, time worked over 8 hours pays time and a half, and over 12 pays double time. I am looking to work twelve hour shifts if possible, even 4 12s a week if possible.
2)Are there lots of oppurtunity in California for this, I live in Reno nevada, I am looking to work in the bay area or sacramento area, but anywhere in Ca will work if the money is good. How long are the contracts for and are there bonuses and living expenses covered?
3) what type of experience is needed, I just recently left my old job as a Correctional officer of 6 years, to start nursing, I am almost done with my first full year working on a step down unit. I also have My BSN.
I also just got a job at a local jail as a nurse, but just want to really see what is out there.
Any info on this would be great, I am looking to take advantage of the oppurtunities with this. Looks like a great oppurtunity for me if there is really such a thing. I hope I can get some where with this. I thank you in advance for any information.
Hi I recevied an e-mail in regards to working in the prison systems in California the pay was quite good almost to good to be true I wonder what is expected out of you for the pay and has anyone from Nevada gone on an assignment?? Wondering if I should apply how are the working conditions in the prison system California???:pjjewels49
I also received the email and mine was from Valley Healthcare Systems. They pay 23.00 an hour with 14.00 of that money taxable. They dont offer housing so tey give you a stipend of 400.00 a week. They refer you to an extended stay hotel and I have a feeling they cost more than 400.00 a week. I personally cant live off 14.00 an hour. But its one way to get your foot in the door and see California. Valley is located in Sacremento if anyone is interested. Ask for Amelia.
By the way, I had posted my resume on Monster.com and that is how they found me, monster.com sells your resumes. They didnt find me on monster.com. They found me thru a bulk of resumes they bought. :heartbeat
Thank you so much for the information14.00 an hour ouch! It sounded to good to be true?We thinking of trying it 3 or four of us but forget it now. they also said they fly you there and give you a rental car I thought some Prison might be going on strike and I would never cross a picket line!!!because they made it sound so good and that it made me wonder what was going on in California;) jjewels49 thank you so much now I won't waste my time

Well ... that hasn't happened at my CDC facility. For one thing, they cut back the expensive agencies for the LVN's so, LVN's had two choices: they either had to go with cheaper agencies that paid less or become state employees.
There was a rumor that the LVN's were going to eventually make $6K a month but, there was a meeting just this week where the LVN's were told there would be no pay raise except for the 3.4 percent raise that everybody got last month.
Needless to say, the LVN's weren't happy about it. Personally, I do think they should be paid a lot more but, it just doesn't seem to be in the cards, so to speak.
