Traveling in CA

Me and a friend have been planning on travelling in CA beginning in February. I am looking for a PICU position and she is looking for an oncology position. We have been told the whole time that there would no problem finding us positions together. Now that it is time for us to get going, there's problem after problem finding us positions together. This is our first travel assignment, and every time we get ourselves excited for a position or an area, we are let down for some reason or another. We have been pretty flexible on the location in CA, except for that we didn't want to go North. Now, it looks like we may have to settle for Northern CA in order to get positions in the same area, and it is very frustrating. Anyone have any suggestions for us????

Most of the PICU positions in CA are in tertiary pediatric facilities. So, you will not find adult hem/onc patients in the same facility.

Easy to get peds hem/onc in the same facility.

You are either going to need to go the route of UCLA for the LA area, or Stanford area up north, to get facilities that are close to each other........for the two different specialties, and the same agency.

My friend and I both came to CA wanting to travel at the same hospital and we're both NICU nurses!!! But I had travel experience and she didn't, so we're not together, but we're close enough to each other that we get to see each other all the time. My advice is to not look for the same hospital, but to to look at different areas. There are plenty of positions in CA b/c they're so short staffed and they have nurse/pt ratios to adhere to. Just hang in there and something will come up! If not at the same hospital then I'm sure you two will find something in the same area!

I work through clinical one. They placed me at Central Ca. Childrens Hospital. They have a 25 bed PI and a 32 bed Oncology/Hematology. They have several travelers. I am not sure about travelers on the oncology unit but it is worth a shot. I love the facility. It is the 13th largest childrens hospital in the US and they are adding on now. I hope this helps.
