Traveling botox & filler RN?

Hi there, I am new to this forum but have a few questions?

I have been a surgery nurse for the last 19 yrs., I have specialized in plastic surgery for the last 5 yrs., I have been doing Botox , Dermal fillers, & laser work for the last 2 yrs. in my plastic surgeons office ( working for an hourly wage ).

I want to branch out & start more of my own business. I don't have the money to purchase a laser, so I was thinking of starting out with botox & fillers. I can get a medical director. I was thinking about starting a business traveling to different day spas, skin care offices, gyms.... & building up clients at these places. I don't want to open my own spa because of the overhead involved.

Do you think that this would fly? Do any of you already do this? If so, can you please give me some advice?

Thanks in advance---------Christine

PS: I live in CA-SF Bay Area

I think it is a great idea! There is such a demand for this, and to make it more convenient for the client, would set you apart from the competition! Good Luck/ I wish you were in NJ, I would ask you to come to my business.

Hi Christine,

I am also getting certified this weekend in botox injection and wondered if you ever ventured out on your own traveling to spa's and salons? I wanted to see if it worked out and what you obtained? Also, what percentage do you have to give the spa/salon's and the medical director? Any information would be great! Thank you!

I have not done the traveling RN thing because here in CA there is much talk of legislation coming down that would restrict this type of thing. Such as needing a Dr. on site ....

I now work for two different plastic surgeons and have built up my clients at their offices. I am very busy & make a lot of money ( hourly plus commission ) so, for now I am happy. The other plus to my current situation is that the Dr's send me to all sorts of education & pay for everything. If I was on my own it would be me paying.

Good luck, ---------Christine

plasticrn,

I have been searching for information on aesthetic nursing for a long time. I live in North Dakota and there is not a lot of job opportunity. Do you think that I should get certified before applying for jobs to make myself more appealing? I will be graduating in May with my BSN and just want to get a head start if I can. Thanks.

There are a lot of programs out there now in my area that provide education and certification. For me it was a natural progression. I was a surgery nurse for years in a trauma center. A plastic surgeon asked me if I wanted to help him open his own surgery center. I started in plastics at that time. After working with him on his surgeries, he purchased a laser & I went to the co. offered training with him. It then expanded into sending me to training for fillers & botox. He was my mentor & was & still is an excellent teacher.

I felt it was important to work with a Dr. that had a lot of experience in fillers/botox & lasers. Then when & if I needed their help & guidance along the way, they would be available. I know a lot of nurses that have their certification but work in a small laser center & don't have the Dr. support & supervision that they should have.

My suggestion is to connect with a Derm. or plastic surgeon. See if you can work for them & learn from them.

As a RN you can't buy those products. They can only be ordered by a DR. These are considered drugs so if you are on your own you need a medical director. I don't the laws in NY but where I live I have to have my doc 5 minutes or 5 miles away. He's actually on site so it's not a problem! I have seen places on the internet to buy these products but I would caution strongly against it, as theyare typically coming from out of the country which is also illegal! Hope this helps:rolleyes:

The business idea is a great one. I too have thought of doing this. Does anyone currently do this...travel to salons or medi-spas that aren't currently offering these services?
