  1. Hi everyone, I am an RN who is getting into this field of medical aesthetics. I wondered if any of you had ventured out as a traveling RN to spa's/salon's and contracted your services to them doing botox/juvaderm? If so, just a few questions, as I am considering doing this in Pennsylvania. Where did you purchase malpractice insurance?....how much did you give your medical director, and how much did you give the spa/salon? Also, how did you set it up with the spa/salon's? For example, did you call the spa/salon and ask them to add your services, and give them a cut, and did you have to sign a contract? Any information would be so appreciated! Thanks!
  2. Hi Christine, I am also getting certified this weekend in botox injection and wondered if you ever ventured out on your own traveling to spa's and salons? I wanted to see if it worked out and what malpractice insurance you obtained? Also, what percentage do you have to give the spa/salon's and the medical director? Any information would be great! Thank you!
  3. i have also called a very well known plastic surgeon in my own town who said he would train me in botox/fillers over the next 3 months for a small fee. i won't be "certified" of course, but i feel the training would be very invaluable coming from a very well known, and respected plastic surgeon. i really can't wait to get started! the permanet cosmetics course is really expensive - but people say it will pay for itself. in this economy, i just can't be certain of that. so really not sure yet what avenue to take.
  4. hi, thank you for your reply! i have spoken to a woman who owns her own medspa, and her recommendation for me was to go back to school to be a licensed esthetician because i would be more marketable. i was thinking about putting my money into certifications, but again, no real guarantee of a job and the skills may fade. i was wondering about starting up an llc company and going to different salons, spa's, and offering permanet cosmetics, or perhaps botox/dermal fillers (under the direction of a medical director), and thought that this might be a more lucrative, and interesting route? what are your thoughts on that?
  5. Can anyone tell me what the medical director(doctor's) percentage is, the nurses percentage, and the medspa's - for botox injections? Any information would be appreciated! Thanks.
  6. Hi Injector1, Thanks for your reply! I am in the Philadelphia, PA area, but I did hear that Arizona was a great place to find work doing this. I have applied to a few more places since I last posted..nothing as of yet, but I will definitely keep trying. It is encouraging to know that someone will be willing to train me. I was tempted to take the cert. classes, but I just can't afford that right now. Are you able to shed any light about the potential income that a nurse can make in the medical aesthetics field? I have heard that they can get a percentage of the revenue at some facilities, and others I heard get an hourly flat rate. Any ideas? Thanks!
  7. Hi Injector1, Thank you very much for all this information! I am so interested in getting into this field, but it seems very difficult to go from an inpatient salary, to this outpatient salary - AND with no experience. I have heard many things about the salaries - either being a flat hourly rate, as opposed to other nurses getting a percentage of the revenue, which I think would be excellent. Would you recommend me paying for all the certifications, and then trying to find work in this field? I'm really not sure? I have applied to 4 medispa's so far, but no luck. Any advice would be really appreciated! Thank you.
  8. Healthyhere, thank you for all of your information on the medical aesthetics field. It can be discouraging when I hear about the liability issues, and the difficulty in finding a medical director, and chance of lawa suits. I live in Philadelphia and just applied to a large medispa and hoping to be employed at least part time...so that I may learn on the job training. I'd love to take those certification courses, however, very costly right now. Thanks again!
  9. Hi! I have been an RN in oncology for 12 years now and hoping to get into medical aesthetics. I would love to find employment with training on the job, however, I know that the pay is very small. I was thinking of taking the certification courses (very expensive), but may be well worth it if I were to go into business with another nurse performing these types of aesthetic procedures. I do have a doctor that is willing to be the medical director but just wondering if you could offer any insight on how to really get this thing started and off the ground? I know nothing about the business side of things. I live in Philadelphia, Pa. Any advice? Margo
