I have a question for all the travel nurses out there. I would like to become a travel nurse. I am currently in an ADN program and seeking an opportunity in a ADN-BSN program. Once I am finished there(I hope to be working during that process), I would like to look into becoming a travel nurse.

Any advice is welcome!!!

Mostly what I want to know is, what department should I be working in before I seek travel nursing, and is travel nursing worth the effort?

Any international travel agencies? And what are their requirements?

I know I'm an ignorant youngster, but I want as much info as I can before I dip into the waters.

Thank you!

I would post this in the Travel Nursing forum, rather than in the NCLEX discussion forum.

I would lurk here until you have something specific to ask, and google travel nursing for some more reading in depth. I would recommend PanTravelers for basic and advanced info.

As far as picking a specialty, you may be limited to getting your foot in the door with medsurg initially, or even LTC. Nursing is like any other career, the more training you have, and the higher up the food chain you go, the more marketable you are, and the more money you will make. So LTC, medsurg, telemetry, ER, ICU, CVICU, PACU, OR, CVOR, cath lab etc. It is important to work in something you actually like as well. Count on at least two years in your chosen specialty before starting travel.
