Question?
Do You Think That It Is Reasonable To Ask Travelers To Train New Staff In The Icu, If You Are Supplementing Your Staff With Travelers Until The New Trainees Are Trained? And Would You Do It?
Thanks

I had a traveler as a preceptor for about a month and to be honest, she was my favorite! She has worked at so many different hospitals, she was able to give me ideas of what other hospitals do, etc. She was very knowledgeable and was very willing to help teach me anything and everything she could.

I have been precepting with a traveler also...she is great!!! She has actually been at our hospital for a while...like a year, but she has a TON of knowledge and insight!! She will be moving on in the next month or so. It will be a real loss...both to me as a preceptee...and to the unit!!

I am a Traveler and I have been asked to preceptor new staff after they have been with regular staff for weeks with no apparent progress. The new grads or new staff love me because I am not like some of the regular staff who "eat their young". I have always been fair and truthful with the new staff being trained. And not all, actually make it thru ICU orientation(in my case). So to answer your question, travelers are nurses also and most of us stay very long at some facilities.
I only ask since a traveler refused to train at our facility, and I don't know what they tell the travelers as they lay out their needs
thanks
