Hi travelers,

I am a med/surg nurse for 15 yrs. I'm in the process of finding my first travel assignment is oakland,Ca and was wondering if you could help to choose a good hospital.

A seasoned traveler told me to stay away from ALTA-BATES and the sister hospitals SUMMIT.

The agency is offering $35 and no other bonus or stipen.

I was told that some of the nurses are place in apartment 45-60 mins away from the hosp. how many times are you floated in one shift? I was told that you can get floated every 4 hours.

any other help would be greatly apprecated. :zzzzz:roll

"A seasoned traveler told me to stay away from ALTA-BATES and the sister hospital SUMMIT. "

That doesn't leave much, since Summit incorporates several hospitals.

"how far are you housed from the hospital?"

What does this mean? Wherever you can find an apartment. If you are talking about where an agency would house you, ask the agency in question. Each has its own contracts.

"how many times are you floated? "

All depends on the hospital, the specialty, and what YOU agree to do.

Theres Kaiser Oakland and Kaiser Hayward, and Children's Hospital in Oakland. If you dont mind crossing the Bay Bridge, there's lots of great hospitals in San Francisco to work at. I live in the Bay Area and commuting is the norm around here... its amazing but people who work in san francisco live as far away as sacramento.. and lots of people do this.. so check out all hospitals around the east bay..
