I have 20yrs ICU experience in Neuro ICU and Trauma I want to do some travelling with the wife. We are thinking of buying a motorhome and use housing allowance to pay for that. I contacted Fastaff because they came highly recommended. Anyone have experience traveling like this. Any info about motorhome or travelling appreciated. I also have concerns about health insurance costs.

I worked with a fellow traveler who did the RV thing. She had been doing this for some time. While I thought it a fascinating way to approach this job, I'm not sure that for me I could stand being 'cooped up' like that on a continuous basis. As far as insurance goes, most companies give free insurance from day 1 for employees and either free or reasonably priced insurance for family. (I say most because although I know of none that charge for it, it's possible some do)

One thing to consider is that most travel companies do not pay sick time, and the ones who do might not pay for time missed due to extended illness or surgery. If you don't work, you don't get paid. So you may want to look into getting some short term disability coverage.

Thats interesting about insurance. I just started looking around. Fastaff came highly recommended from some travelers i met but they charge about $400 a month for health insurance. Can you name a few that don't charge so I can check with them? Thanks in advance.

Look up travel nursing on delphi forums. They have forums on rv's and companies.

I work with Cross Country. They have 1st day insurance and you do not pay for it (except in the sense that like everything you get it comes out of the bill rate the hospital pays for your contract). They do charge for insurance for dependents.

Just as a heads up - Look into the tax implications if you are considering selling a home or leaving a permanent tax residence to go with the motor home. If you do not have a permanent tax home then all the subsidy money is taxable - NOT tax free, no matter what some companies may tell you!
