I was talking to a travel nurse at my hospital today about needing a roommate. She is interested in a renting a room from me 3 days a week when she's in town, for however long her contract runs. She would be wonderful to have! She is currently staying with a family member almost 30 minutes away from the hospital when in town so this would be a lot more convenient. What would other travelers consider to be a reasonable price per night for the room? I have a 3 bedroom house, she would have her own room and bathroom, as well as garage, also have living room, family room, computer w/wireless internet, Dish Network w/ DVR. What do you think? What would you pay?

is that per week?

Yes, for 7 days

Where I am (highest cost of living in the nation) rooms rent for anywhere from $350-$1100 month depending on area, neighborhood, amt of house privileges/amenities, etc. The average would be $450-$800/month, for 7 days week. For only 3 days wk you should deduct appropriately. Also make sure that everyone is clear about house rules, expectations, etc. You would be surprised how even people that seem to be compatible (you both already know each other from work) can get on each other's nerves when expectations don't match. I rented a room for almost 5 yrs once from a landlord from hell. Reason I stayed was due to it seeming to be lesser of other evils at the time. Eventually I was forced to leave.

I am a traveler and I will be renting a room from a wonderful person in the area to which I'm traveling. I will only be there 3-4 nights a week and I am paying her a monthly rate of $350, which includes utilities. My contract is for 13 weeks and I will essentially be paying her for 3 months rent.

Given the fact that she is a traveler, she is most likely collecting a housing stipend from the company she is traveling with.

I'm not sure what area you are in, but I will be traveling to a large city (80,000+ in MN)

Hope this helps.

Well, you have a dilemma here. That room has to be considered on a weekly basis in my opinion. Wherever she goes outside of her week is her business but I would definitely charge certainly $800/month. You're offering a lot. Look at craigslist.com At $800/month, that's a bargain anywhere. If she wants to stay with family, that's her choice but you aren't considering the value of what you are offering.

Another good suggestion is to go to roommates.com and do a search for rooms for rent in your immediate area, see what they are charging for a room by the month. Think of it as comparison shopping.

I am a traveler and rent a room from another traveler, I basically pay $200.00 per month. I work 3 night shofts per week. I sleep and shower there 2 days per week, possibly 3 depending if I work an extra shift. I take my own towels, sheets etc...I think it is a fair price, the peerson I rent from tells me that the utilities haven't changed.
