Travel nursing

Published

Hello,

I have been a nurse for approx 10 years and just recently have thought about travel nursing. I am married with three kids and am also the bread winner in my household. My husband is in college at this time.

So I'm wondering if traveling is a good idea? I'm getting dissatisfied with where I am right now.

Any ideas on which agency is best? I want to stay local near my home and just travel to the surrounding hospitals. I live in Michigan.

Thanks alot.

Sounds like you are looking more for per diem agency work, then actually as a traveler, where you are at a hospital for a thirteen week assignment or so.

Which part of Michigan are you interested in? The agency that you select depends on where you live, if you give me more info, then I can attempt to steer you in the right direction.

Good luck.................

I'm looking to travel in the West Michigan area, such as Kalamazoo, Paw Paw, Three Rivers area.

Yes, perdiem agency work may be what I'm looking for, since I can't travel far from home.

A number of hospitals have contracted with various local agencies for people who do not want to go too far. I know Intelistaf does that. I did a "local" contract last year with them. They did not pay a housing stipend or travel like most travel companies, but paid a higher per hour salary. They did offer benefits but they are no where close to what you might get with a traditional travel contract. The big benefit to it is that you have a 13 week contract, can't be cancelled, and know where you are going every shift.

Check the travel forum on this board for other information for and by travelers. You need to do some homework. Read other opinions of good companies to work with and give them a call and see what they may have to offer. I did a travel contract about 2 hours from home with RN Network. While it was still too far to go home after every shift, I would work 3 days on, stay in town then drive home at the end of my last shift. There are lots of options, you just have to do some legwork. Feel free to PM me and I might be able to answer some specific questions, but I know nothing about Michigan, except it is too cold for me there!
