Hey everyone,

Looking for an assignment in critical care in Philadelphia! Currently in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins. Anyone have any advice on hospitals or agencies? Been traveling for about 2 years now and am headed off to CRNA school in September. Ive heard Thomas Jefferson is a good hospital. Any info would help!! Thanks!

I took an ER assignment in Media, PA which is west suburb of Philly. It was the end of summer, beginning of fall so was really nice and they have a beautiful park - Ridley Creek that is full of hiking and biking trails. The hospital is kind of small, you'll mostly get geriatrics from all of the nursing homes in the area.

Specializes in MICU, SICU, CVICU, CCU, and Neuro ICU.

In my experience, there aren't a larger number of travel assignments in the Philly area and the few that I found paid below average for the area. Within an hour of Philly you can find assignments in Trenton and Camden that pay well. The issue is that the Philly area is flooded with new grads and experienced nurses. Also at least one hospital closed in recent years that put a lot of experienced nurses in the job market. In addition to that, the hospitals have a large pool of part time and per diem staff available.

Interesting insight. I remember back in the 1990's being impressed with Temple offering $10,000 sign on bonuses for staff. Of course, that was a very bad area back then, but how times have changed from severe shortages to oversupply in that market!
