Travel Nursing in Dallas

Hi,

I have been a nurse in Brownsville for a little bit over a year. I would like to try travel nursing, but am a bit confused about how the pay works. I have read numerous posts about making $40 per hour, plus free housing, mileage, etc. I have also read numerous posts about taking a much lower rate (less than $20 per hour) to qualify for all of the perks (housing $, etc.). I also noticed that most of the posts are from 2008 and before. Can someone please help me understand the average current rate for a first-time travel nurse in Dallas? Are the stipends and insurance included in the hourly rate that some posters post? I am looking at an agency called Parillion and TruStaff and would like to know what to expect.

Thank you.

I work with Parallon, but as local agency. Depending on your specialty (I'm ICU), their pay is decent. I make pretty good money as local agency but not sure how they pay as far as travel.

Don't know anything personally about Trustaff even though word on here is that they are not that good.

I was seriously thinking about traveling this summer but I may hold off bc I have been offered a promotion at my present position and I know I won't be having the same level of acuity of patients in traveling. Decisions, decisions.

Did a travel to Baylor Irving last year. I was with Intelistaf travel. Labor/delivery on day shift. 36 hours/week with all shifts except 1per month guaranteed.

$15.00/hour, $502.00/ week housing stipend, $211.00/ week meals and incidentals. No state income tax. I declined all insurance, etc.

Not exactly the best pay but the opportunity to spend time with my daughter was worth it. And I lived with a friend who would not take any rent, so I bought groceries, etc...

I just started travel nursing 8 months ago and my first assignment was in Arlington, which is inbetween Dallas and Fort Worth. I'm from Arizona. I applied to several companies but TaleMed was the first company to get me a job (which was difficult because I had no travel experience). However I would not recommend them at all. They were terrible, with bad housing and they frequently goofed up my paychecks. I worked at an HCA hospital and after talking with another traveler, she recommended Parallon (formerly known as All about staffing). Parallon does staffing travel and local for all the HCA hospitals in the country. They have good pay rates and my recruiter their has been excellent. Working for Tale Med I made $29/hour + most housing (although it was a disgusting extended stay hotel and I still had to pay a small amount extra for it. You should not have to pay any extra for housing - that was a rookie mistake, but I wanted the travel experience and went with it.) With Parallon, I smartened up and decided to just taking the housing stipend and found a friend to live with. I made $28/hour, but $440/week for housing stipened, +$350/month insurance reimbursement. There are a lot of HCA hospitals in Dallas and in Austin as well. Hope this helps.

I'm with Parallon now too. I'm looking for a new contract in Denton, Lewisville area for July-Oct.

My recruiter will contact me when the assignments start coming in.

Glad to hear of a positive experience with them.
