Travel Nursing & taxes.....Please Help

Published

I have been traveling fo one year (from GA) and have alot of questions regarding my taxes. I am single, no children, and don't own a home/property. I orginally was using my father's address (in GA) as my residence. I recently was informed by my recruiter that i couldn't use my father's address as my place of residence (Georgia). I have my car registered in Ga and also work PRN at my old hospital (GA). CCTC has taxed me on my housing and state taxes while on assignment. How can I safely avoid these taxes? According to my recruiter if I was audited my father's residence would not be acceptable and I could get fined. Is this true? It seems after getting taxed I am not making the $$$ I thought I would.

I don't know the legalities, but I talked to one traveler who used his parents residence, but he paid monthly rent and a portion of the utilities to his parents and maintained a room there. It sounds like it fits the bill because he paid the rent even if he was not there. I doubt there is a certain amount you have to pay because we maintain our permanent residence as our 40 acre farm and it is paid for! Good luck.
