Travel Nsg as a career?

Published

Hello:

I have a question. I'm a fairly new RN. I've only been practicing Nursing a little over 1 yr. All the experienced I've gained so far has been in ambulatory surgery centers. Thus, I have PACU and pre-op experience. Now that I've completed my first year in Nursing, I have been contacted by several nsg travel agencies offering travel assignments. I am very tempted to accept these offers. But can someone tell me the pros n cons about travel nsg?

Also, can a nurse really make a decent living just doing travel nsg? Is it considered to be an actual career?

If someone could enlighten me, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

I'd suggest enlightening yourself by reading a few threads here, and Googling travel nursing to find popular traveler sites and books. Then you may be able to ask more focused questions. We are not going to be able to tell you that travel will work for you, but yes, some of us do make a decent to great living and travel as a career.

You will also get a lot of "you don't have enough experience" - two years is really the minimum, and I personally don't believe that you will ever have enough to start traveling if your only experience is a surgery center. I'd have to be really hard up as a hospital nurse manager to take someone without acute hospital experience.
