i AM INTERESTED IN TRAVEL NURSING. I WAS WONDERING IF I COULD GET SOME INFORMATION FROM THOSE WHO ARE CURRENTLY WORKING AS TRAVEL NURSES. I AM LOOKING FOR

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED, AGENCY NAMES, IF YOU LIKE IT, JOB AVAILABILITY, ECT.

I WORK IN THE ER AS AN EMT AND WILL SOON BE AN RN AND AM WONDERING WHAT I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE FOR A CAREER AS A TRAVELING NURSE.

as a brand new RN most travel agencies require atleast 10 mths experience regardless of exp( i.e. respiratory tech, emt, lpn) because you won't have much of an orientation you need some experience trust me i know i was an lpn for 4 years but they don't take new grad RN's 10mths to a year seems to be what i've heard. They want seasoned nurses that are able to adapt so off i go to the hospital to get that "experience" they so require.. Good Luck

There is a whole nursing forum on this site dedicated to the discussion of travel nursing and the debate about which agency is better. That aside... the most important thing is to have a recruiter that you trust and have a good relationship with.

Call any of the agencies and ask to talk to someone. They will answer any questions you have, even if you are a new grad.

You need to have a minimum of 1 years experience in your specialty, preferably more. (There are some hospitals that will only look at travelers with 2 or more years experience.) As the previous poster said, you are not there to learn. You are expected to function in the full capacity of the position, from day one of your contract. Orientation is usually 1-3 days (usually a general hospital orientation... getting passwords established and an overview of the charting system) then you hit the ground running.
