Do you have a partner or person to travel with you to care for your son? Trying to set up child care from a distance in an unfamiliar area could be really chancy.

My advice would be to get prepared financially first. Then be ready for worst case scenarios IE: bad housing, low hours, car trouble, termination, travel home, switching from days/nights, traffic, etc.

i travel with my husband who is stay at home dad and our 3 year old son. i can't imagine doing it without someone. it's tough enough as it is. we do fine, but each time it takes several weeks for him to sleep through the night, for example. i would hesitate to find child care with someone or company i don't know from the first week in a new environment. we've been doing it for almost two years but i think i'm done now. my son is getting to be really ready for relationships that stick. and i agree with Tango, be ready to be without work. i was for almost three months last year. think about your extra cost for health insurance. i pay 850 a month for my family. don't get me wrong, it's been worth it for these two years of adventuring, but it's not a money maker and it has it's own stresses.
