Transitioning into acute care

Published

Hello I have been a school nurse since graduating in 2013. I began my career in school nursing due to the age of my children and my family needs. I completed my BSN in May 2020 and have been trying to transition into the acute care/ hospital setting. I am finding it very challenging. What is your opinion on applying for a nurses aide position to get my foot in the door. I am willing to do do anything to get to where I want to be. In in New Jersey and advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest LTC/rehab or LTAC as a step towards acute care. Another option would be getting a psych position in a general/"regular" hospital and transferring to a medical unit after a year. I have seen both work.
