I'm graduating from USFs Transitional Program Home Health/ Hospice in August. Hopefully, Kaiser will hire me. What questions do you have?

Sounds like you are over-thinking. Maybe you should take my advice to heart the forth time and you might be surprised. Follow these simple steps

1. Know all your lab values and the SS associated with them. Know you meds too.

2. Buy about 5 different books with lots of training questions (there's lot's of suggestions for books in other posts here)

3. Practice 60 questions a day but buy a timer and only answer one question per minute. So only one hour for the whole test (the timing is the most important part).

4. When you finish the test look at the rationales of all questions

5. you are only ready if you are getting above 75% of the questions right within the one hour limit.

6. do not take the test until you are getting above 75% correct within less than one hour.

7. at the day of the test being nervous is a good sign.

8. do not spend more than one minute per question. If by one minute you know one answer is incorrect stab at random on the remaining three. If you know 2 answers are incorrect stab on the two remaining ones so on and so forth.

9. stabbing means picking one at random. Do not guess based on a hunch or you'll fall in the trap set by the question's writers.

10. In order to pick a random answer always choose the one bellow the one you know is incorrect. No one knows all the answers so don't be afraid to guess

There is one more thing I forgot to tell you and this is very important so read it very carefully. This is how you actually prepare and study.

You must understand that the NCLEX has two ways to grade you. 1) The computer program evaluate your performance up to a certain point, say you are doing very well and scoring high and missing only a few questions. At that point it decides you are within the passing level and you pass. Likewise if you are doing badly it decides you are bellow passing level and you’ll fail. 2) If you score a few and miss a few successively and consistently the program cannot come up with any passing of failing pattern so at that point the software switches to a different “grading mode”. In this mode the computer will give you all 265 questions and then when the test is over it will evaluate all the questions and determine if you are above the passing line.

Since you fail in previous tests I can almost say for sure it’s very possible that you fall into the second category I’ve explained above. So you must prepare yourself to walk in there ready to answer all 265 questions which imply a few things. You must acquire the stamina to be able to answer all 265 questions without getting too tired. You must also be able to do this spending one minute per question. Technically you only have one minute and a half for each question. This is why is so important to train practicing one question per minute and at the end of one week you practice an assortment (from different books) all 265 questions and if you are getting above 60 or 75% in this big test you are ready. Do not waste your time and money until you are getting these scores. Do this and you will pass.
