Hello everyone. I am an RN with 22 years of experience. I am looking to transition to work in a VA facility. I would like to know how does the pension plan work in a VA? do I work a certain number of years? Any input is appreciated. thank you

your vested at 5 years. basically it goes about how many years. the more years the better. you can retire at like 55 but youd have to be there for like 25 years to gett full pension. they take the 3 highest salary you made during your career and multilplu by 1 percent I beleive? alot of people use the thrit savings plan as a supplement, its like a 401 k plan. it matches up to a certain amount I think 5%. I know people whove been with VA 10 years and they have over 100k in it already.

Just know the VA operates very differently than the private. You will find yourself being frustrated with how they do things but the VA is notorious for being resilient to change.
