A friend is re-writing the p and p's for the OB she is managing .......does anyone have a policy on whether the pregnant patient has a right to refuse blood products in your facility?

they can refuse any treatments anytime they choose.
when they sign their initial consents to allow us to deliver them, administer anesthesia, if needed, and care for their babies, they also sign whether (or not), they would allow blood transfusions in the case of severe hemorrhage.
This is their right, after being informed, to refuse if they so choose. They sign and initial this refusal upon their choosing.

Anyone has the right to refuse anything. You donl;t need a P&P for that. Just use a refusal form.

We don't have a written P or P for refusal of blood products. Like the others have said, it is on the general consent form. Even if they consent to blood on the general consent, they still have the right to refuse later on if a transfusion becomes necessary.
You shouldn't need a P or P for the "right" to refuse. Every pt has the right to refuse anything. They do require consent forms prior to transfusion, right? There is your policy.
