Transferring to a new job

Published

Hi all,

Need advice: Currently working in an ICU for about 10 mos., and will be relocating to another state in November. I already went through my phone interview today for the new job, and the director states she needs to check references. I don't want to tell my current boss that I will be leaving, as that is still months away and I don't want it to fall negatively on me. What is the best way to go about this?

Thanks!

I am going through the same thing right now. I have still not told my boss...I told my new employer and they were fine using other refrences. I used my professors and clinical instructors from school as well as a couple nurses I worked with in a previous ( non-nursing) position.

Calla, how did things turn out?

Well I have the new postition secured and still have not told my current employer. I am always nervous that they will be "weird" about it. I will be giving a months notice, so middle June I will let them know. IT went fine with the new employer, they totally understood.

when do you intend to actually start your new job?

I will be starting in late July. We are relocating about 1500 miles, so I had to look way in advance. I interviewed in Feb.

where are you moving from/to? I talked to a travel nursing recruiter the other day, and he told me I'm looking way too early! He advised me to start looking 3 mos. ahead of my move. I thought I'd hear back really soon from the nursing recruiter after my interview, but I haven't gotten a response. I kind of don't want to contact her because I don't want to rush and have her contact my current employer, anyway.
