Transferring from Med Surg to Post Partum Nursing

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi everyone,

I have a 2 questions:

1. For those who have transferred to PP from Med Surg floor.. do you love it or hate it? Can you share your experience and any advice would be great. ?

2. Should I make a cover letter for applying to Post Partum RN position (internal transfer) or just an updated resume would be OK?

A little background about me:
I’ve been working as a Med Surg nurse for the past 2.5 years, I am a relief charge nurse and work nights. I have a total of 6 years experience as a Charge nurse at Skilled Nursing Facility, Pediatric Home Health RN, ER and Psych Dept.

I recently applied internally for the Pediatric/PP nurse. I submitted my application with an updated resume attached. I also told of of my managers about my application. I haven’t told my other manager because I haven’t seen her lately in our unit and I wanted to tell her in person.

Anyway, the reason I want to transfer is that our unit has been crazy busy with difficult/confused patients all the time and I am just so tired also of ungrateful patients who treat us nurses like slaves. I want a fresh start and I want to try Pediatrics and Post Partum nursing, I floated at that unit one time and loved the vibes in there and I really feel like I will love it. I really hope I get this position!

Good luck! Just remember, the grass is not always greener.  There are lots of ungrateful and/or needy people in all departments, including OB.
