I recently transferred floors from a critical care unit to a mother/baby unit. I've tried really hard to assimilate but to be honest...I'm bored to tears and really regretting the move. I know I want to transfer back but I don't know how long I should wait. What is an appropriate time period before leaving? I've been on the new unit for a couple of months. Advice anyone?

Check your employee handbook. Generally, policies exist that state how long an employee must remain in a position prior to being eligible for another transfer.

I'm in the same position...transfered to postpartum from another unit and I want to go back to my old speciality. My hospital says no transfers for 6m, but I spoke to someone yesterday who transfered back to her old unit after 3. I'm hoping they can bend the rules for me too. Good luck!
I checked and its 6 months for me, too. I'm just going to pick up shifts on my old floor whenever possible until I can make the move permanently. Good luck to you, too, Pmkn10RN!
