Transfering?

I was wondering if anyone knows if it possible to transfer from one nursing program to another? (without having to start all over)

I think it really depends on the school because I tried but all the three schools that I had applied to told me I need to start all over because they don't accept NS credit from other nursing program. I'm in my 4th semester and one school even told me I need to take the Teas V. So good luck.

Here's the deal. Nursing is not a "major", it is a "program". This is a huge difference. Although all accredited nursing programs must include an assortment of core elements, there is no requirement that they arrange them in the same way. For instance, one school may have a separate pharmacology course, while another one may decide just to include pharmacology in each clinical specialty course. One school may have separate courses for each clinical specialty but another one may lump a bunch of stuff together and call it "adult health continuum" or some such thing.

So, bottom line? Clinical content is usually not transferable unless the schools have a prior agreement to do so. This can happen if several different school programs are part of a larger system or a 'career ladder' consortium - LPN at one school, ADN at another, and BSN at a third one.. with easy transition between programs.

Sorry if this is the first time you are hearing this. I hate to be the bearer of bad news.

You would have to talk to the Registrar's office in the next school. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board is trying to work out this problem so that students could matriculate from one program to another to advance their education (ADN-BSN for instance). Right now, the only way to know for sure is to talk to someone at the school.
