Transfering Classes from National University to Another Nursing School

Published

Hi all!

I am wondering is anyone knows if National University's prerequisite classes (Anatomy, Physiology and Microbiology) will fulfill other nursing school' prerequisites for entry? I would like to take them since I can be done with each class in 2 months however, I am nervous to spend the money if they won't take them. I am specifically looking at Samuel Merritt University, CSU San Marcos, Stanislaus State and San Francisco State University.

Does it matter where you take the prerequisites? Do nursing schools take students who have done their prerequisites at certain private and community colleges first?

Thank you!

Depends on each school. You really do have to just email each one and check. The majority of California universities generally gravitate toward classes from state community colleges or other state universities. Private colleges are hit or miss.

Schools in the CSU and UC systems use ASSIST to match up transferability, but it's strictly limited to California community colleges and the UC/CSU systems. I know SMU actually has their own articulation tool (https://www.samuelmerritt.edu/admission/articulation), but it only covers the CA Community Colleges.

You can also try UCSD Extension for these classes. Probably the same cost as National, and they will transfer for sure if they are marked as valid for UC credit. Also check to see if San Marcos and SDSU have Extension courses for credit in these subjects.

It is so impacted here in California that I ended up taking my nursing prereqs at several different community colleges in LA and San Diego County, as well as through UCLA and UCSD Extension. I got into Hopkins, UCLA, and Hahn (USD), so no, it doesn't matter where you took your prereqs as long as they are transferable and you got good grades.

Don't take your pre-reqs at National if you are planning to attend a State School, a UC or a city College. They units only really transfer over to other private Universities, which are often more expensive. I am faced with the problem now. I took my units at National and the State School and City College in my area would not accept them. So now I am looking at private schools in another state.
