Hi everyone,
Although I could contact excelsior directly, I was wondering if anyone out there started in a traditional nursing program and then switched to excelsior college.
I currently work full time, have 3 kids and realized that after my first year in the traditional nursing program, I am never available for my family, and would prefer to study on my own and take the exams.
It would be nice if I could transfer some of my nursing process courses I took locally to get a head start with excelsior as I did complete 1 year successfully.
Anyone have an experience with this?
Thanks!

Typically, nursing classes don't transfer; most traditional-to-EC students have to take all of the nursing exams. However, EC will evaluate your transcripts and give you the final answer. I just don't recall anyone getting credit for nursing classes; doesn't mean you won't, though.
Also, I just want to make sure you're aware that some states don't recognize EC grads, or have extra stipulations in place before EC grads can practice. There is info on EC's site here: https://www.excelsior.edu/Excelsior_College/School_Of_Nursing/Accreditation_and_Licensure/State_Board_Requirements
You're probably already aware of all that, but I'd hate for you to pin your hopes on it only to find out that you're in a state where being an EC grad isn't workable.
Welcome to Allnurses!! :)
Thanks for the quick response!
I am based out of NY, so I think it won't apply to me.
Ha! Not in the least, then. NY loves EC, as it should!

Have never read of anyone who had nursing courses transfer to EC. They did not accept mine. When I entered EC a second time, they even required me to retake all of their own nursing exams. They are, however, very generous in accepting general ed classes and tests.
why did you have to enter EC a second time? and wouldn't they honor your courses you took?
Life circumstances forced me to withdraw from EC prior to finishing. When I reentered they made me repeat the nursing tests. No matter what reason the school would give, I am convinced the real reason was to collect the increased fees from me a second time. It always boils down to money.
