My patient will be getting his trach removed in the near future. How long do they usually leave the G-tube in until it gets D'cd? An occupational therapist told me that they usually leave the g-tube in for a long time after trach removal in case the kid gets sick and can't eat. Is this true? How long exactly does it usually stay in? Thanks. Once the tube feeding is d'cd they will get rid of us nurses and replace with CNA's.

Thanks great that your case is able to be decanulated! Im not sure how long the gtubes stay in after they are not receiving tube feedings, I think it depends on the parents wishes and the condition of the client.
