Took the PSB yesterday...

...and the natural science section was hard. I don't know if they expect you to actually know all of that stuff, or if many of those questions are supposed to be answered by looking at the options and picking one that logically seems the only fit. I've heard others on here say that they were certain that they failed, only to find out they received a 98 on the science. I am soo hoping that happens to me. The first two sections I thought were easy, especially the verbal/math section.

Does anyone else know if the scores are based on your percentage correct or percentiles? The website says percentiles, but I asked the woman who was administrating the test and she said that I was "thinking of something else". I'm not sure she knew what she was talking about, or what I was asking though.

Now I just gotta start the rest of the application procress for Shadyside. I'm so happy to have the test part over and will feel so relieved once I'm done with the application process, though I'm sure I will be going crazy waiting to hear if I got in or not LOL.

i took the psb on april 7th. i swore i failed the science section. i had my interview two weeks ago and i scored in the mid 90's on everything but science but i was over 50% in science. i was accepted and start on 8/31, can't wait.

i studied body parts, cells, blood, tissue, muscle, etc. i didn't study any of what was on that test. i just wung it. i did a whole lot better than i thought so i'm sure you did too. good luck!!! let us know when you find out.

oh, i forgot to answer the question. it is what you scored - not percentile's based on others. it is your actual scores and there is a score for algebra, vocab, geometry, spelling, science, practical skills and personality (the ability to get along with others. my school requires above 50 on each component.

Thanks for your reply. Did you take the PSB-RN exam? The test I took had no Geometry or spelling, just a verbal/math section, reading comprehension, and then natural sciences. But the book looked like something the school put together so maybe that's why it was like that. The school I am applying to requires above 75 on each section.

Oh and congrats on your admission :balloons: You must be so excited to start :D

thanks, yes i'm real excited to start. ya know, our book looked like something the school put together too. it was for lpn. the answer sheet was sent out to a firm that computer generated the scores. for example, we had 120 ovals for section 1 and our test had 90 questions so 30 ovals were left blank. the first section was basic math if you ask me - they called it algebra and it accounted for 1/3 of section 1, then there were figures - that was geometry and then there were five words and that was the vocab - we had to bubble in the word that didn't fit. maybe your school just didn't require all the sections?

PS - wish we had the reading comp part. I studied the Allied Test and entrance exam book and it didn't have the same science that this test had. It asked who won a Noble prize, questions about plants - stuff I did not think related at all.

The first section on my test was exactly same, except they had glued little pieces of paper of what would have been the Geometry questions that said "skip" LOL! It was the same thing with the bubbles being 120 but there only being 90 questions. And then on top of that we had to be careful not to mess up the numbering because every third question

...was supposed to be skipped (sorry for the broken up message, my laptop just did some weird thing.)

The science had at least one of those kinds of questions too. It was some sort of gas law, I think, and it asked who discovered it.

yup - was the same, lol. every third question was those shapes so they didn't take the geometry in to account. second section was spelling and yes that was the science portion. then we had practical nursing - a scenerio and chose the best answer as to what we'd do. lastly, was agree or disagree. i was worried because i disagreed with most but i scored a 92 in my ability to get along with others.

i guess each school uses the same answer sheet but just requires certain aspects of the test.

i bought myself a nice purple litman se ii stethoscope :-)

Hi there,

I am taking the PSB tomorrow (after being scheduled just on Friday!!!) Was expecting to have more time to study for it, but that's how it goes. Any advice for a "crash course"? Not so worried about the verbal/spelling/math sections. I've been out of school for 20 years -- I need advice about the Natural Sciences and Nursing areas. Any help (quickly) would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

try the link above. i used the book but the science questions were different than what was in my book. this link http://www.testprepreview.com/modules/generalscience1.htm should take you to what was on the psb. good luck!! and truthfully, it's just this part that i had a tough time with.

let us know how you do!! kim

Thanks so much! I appreciate your quick resonse. I'll let you know...
