Took Exam Tuesday, results on hold until Monday

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello All,

I took the NCLEX on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. Today is Sunday, April 20, 2014. I live in New York state and we do have the 48 hours quick results option. Except I cannot use that option because my exam is on hold. My exam is on hold because one of the test administrators showed up significantly late. My exam was scheduled for 7:30 and she didn't show up until 8:35. It took me 2.5 hours to take the NCLEX. My test stopped at question 75.

I was excited that it ended at 75. My odds are that I did well and passed. I say this because my ATI predictor said that I have a 87% chance of passing and I used some incredible test taking strategies while I was in there.

I took my sweet time taking the exam. I took a lot of deep breaths. I made my self read the questions before I even looked at the answers. I kept my palms on the table. I did not keep one hand on the mouse because I learned from nursing school that holding onto the mouse makes me panic and select answers too quickly. I learned from all of the thousands of practice questions I did to stick to my gut. It is right more often than not. I answered questions confidently and in the best way that I could. I did not allow myself to answer questions if my stomach was hurting or if my heart was beating too fast. Anxiety messes with my brain so I didn't allow it. That is why it took me 2.5 hours to answer 75 questions. I figured I had 6 hours to take it so I will use all the time I needed.

So anyways, I take the exam. I go work a 16 hours shift. I felt pretty good about it. I was looking forward to getting my results Thursday morning. I try the Pearson "trick" it says my results are on hold. Not exactly the "good pop-up" that people talk about. Thursday comes and I still cannot access the quick results. I call Pearson, they tell me that "48 business hours" does not count my testing day. I can get my results on Friday.

Now, I knew something was up and the rep didn't want to look into it because here on all Nurses everyone says 48 hours after their exam ended, they could get the quick results. Even on holidays and saturdays and sundays. Plus the pop-up when I tried to register says my results are "on hold."

When Friday came and I couldn't access the quick results...I wasn't terribly surprised. I call Pearson and they tell me my exam was on hold because I "started the exam late." Making it sound as if I took the exam late on purpose. I asked the rep..."Let me make sure I understand you...because one of the proctor's was late to administer the exam late, my results are delayed??" And the rep at Pearson told me that I can get the results on Monday.

So, it has been a very long week. I just want my results. I don't even care if I failed. I just can't deal with waiting anymore. I have been hard at work on becoming a nurse for 6 years. Working as a CNA at a nursing home with a horrible administration that seems to get worse by the day. I love taking care of people but as a CNA I am not paid enough and everything seems to be my fault!! I want to move on.

I will move on either way. I just need my results so I can figure out if I am filling out applications as a healthcare tech/CNA or as a brand new Nurse.

Oh yeah...then I got the stomach bug last night. Yup. Worst week ever. Smh. Please tell me that I am not the only person who would be terribly upset about this scenario???

Will you be able to get the results tomorrow?

You have hours left to celebrate completing the exam; go do something to let off steam, regroup and find out tomorrow.

Best wishes!

They told me tomorrow. Hopefully that will actually happen. I am not so sure anymore. Feels like it will never ever happen. :-/

Give yourself time to enjoy the rest of today. Breathe. The test is over; find something relaxing to do.

8:00am...no results yet. Wonder if I will be able to access them today.

So now I have to call the National Board of Nursing. Pearson said they can't help me but the National Board of Nursing can.

What at is happening??? I just want to know if I passed or failed.

So, my exam is on hold for review and no one can tell me how long. The board of nursing basically just told me my exam results are on hold for an undetermined amount of time.

Dear Button,

Periodically, NCSBN® will conduct investigation(s) into candidate results. The rationale for such investigations can be numerous. There is no specific timeframe for the completion of these investigations. Therefore, NCSBN is currently unable to honor your request for the status of your results.

NCSBN appreciates your patience and understanding at this time.

There are threads there on AN where several posters had their results on hold; while it does happen, I suggest checking out those threads, as well as remaining patient and still finding time to relax and recharge after completing the exam; whether or not you pass or fail will be determined, just not right now.

Best wishes!

This whole thing would have been a lot easier to deal with if they told me about the hold business the 1st time I called. :-/
