Toledo Area School!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

There are several schools in the Toledo, Ohio area that offer nursing programs. They are Lourdes College in Sylvania, Mercy College in Toledo, Owens Community College in Toledo and the University of Toledo - obviously in Toledo.

Do any of you have any experience with these schools? What are your thoughts about their respective programs. If you want to look at their websites they are as follows.

I am seriously considering Mercy College. Attended an open house today and filled out the application (only because they waived the app fee). Visited Lourdes ~ and they told me about all the "unhappy" people they get that transfer from Mercy. Today at Mercy, the gal told me that people that "fail" the Mercy program go to Lourdes. I just want to make the right choice.

There are a couple of things that bear weight on the decision. I'll share them with you.

At Mercy I simply need one chemistry course to enter their program.

At Lourdes, I need a chemistry and they won't accept the biology I'm currently doing

At UT, they do not have an evening / weekend program available and I have many many children and a full time job. I need the flexibility. Mercy DOES offer that option.

Owens ~ I'm a non-traditional student that NEVER took the ACT. They are requiring that I go take it before entering their program. The other schools are willing to look at my last year of course work at UT, during which time I have maintained a solid 4.0 gpa.

I hate decisions, so somebody on here TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!! :smackingf

I know you wrote this a year ago and are probably at the school of your choice right now but I thought i would help anyways. I attend mercy and am int he last semester and we started out with 150 people and are down to 35. It is very hard. Most do not make it. But it is true that around here a mercy nurse is considered a better nurse, I already have job offers lined up. If you can put up with the crap it is worth it. I am going to Lourdes for my BSN. I don't like that Lourdes disses mercy int heir presentation, I never liked that and I wanted the ADN program that lourdes does not offer. Owens has a long wait list, it can be up to 5 years. In my opinion you can get your BSN elsewhere before you even start clinicals there. UT has a consortium with BG so you must apply for 80 positions 40 filled by UT and 40 filled by BG for your 3rd and 4th yr. Mercy really is easier to get into and get started if you can handle it. I hear the evening program is alot more non traditional student and family friendly as well.

I, too am considering mercy in the evening program but you go mon thru sat and I work during the day so was wondering when will i have time to study. what school did you decide to go to.

I began at BGSU which takes you to MUO. However, I also applied to Mercy and that is where I plan on attending for my last 2 years.

I'm interested to hear what you decided and how you are doing...and how any other Mercy students like it.
