TOEFL-IBT or TOEFL-PBT

hi guys!
I decided to take my TOEFL exam. For all those who took the TOEFL exam, which one is easy? Is it the TOEFL-iBT (Internet Based Test) or the TOEFL-PBT (Paper Based Exam) Much thanks!

hello mides. this is not to discourage you but just want to share my experience... iBT is not so easy, i decided to take ielts instead of retaking the same exam.

I would want to take IELTS though i heard it has an expiration. Does toefl expire too? Sheesh, now im scared. Waa!

TOEFL iBT is way too difficult than the paper-based test. I had my TOEFL PBT and just received the result yesterday. I got 650 (average is around 540 for some states). For those planning to take TOEFL, just go to ets.org and register for a fee. TSE is a separate program and you have to pay another fee for it. Only TOEFL/TWE (TEST for Written Exam) is included in the package. For Filipinos, TOEFL is easy but I think IELTS is much preferred by Filipinos because the speaking part is already included in the package and you'll be speaking with a British accent person. While in TOEFL (TSE), your response to some topics/question will be recorded and the evaluator will be the who will listen and eventually rate you. You will feel like an idiot talking to no one. Try it for yourself. I downloaded 3 TOEFL programs on the net and have some practice tests on my computer. By the way, after registering for TOEFL, you'll receive within 2 weeks a booklet containing some practice modules and simulated TOEFL exam (CD audio included). Cost for TOEFL is around 6000+. Any English exam has an expiration of two years, so both the IELTS and the TOEFL series have the same timeframe that they are valid for.

If you are going to take the TOEFL, go the iBT route. But it is not recommended that you use that, you will find it much harder to pass the speaking section on that exam.

We recommend the IELTS as you will be testing one on one with a human in front of you.

Ms Suzzanne i have a question here.

I've read again the Illinois site about the requirements for TOEFL since that is the only English test accepted in their state. It is stated there that you must achieve a passing minimum score of 560-paper based, 220-computer based or an 83 on the TOEFL internet based exam.

My question is do I have to take any of the TOEFL exam (either PBT, CBT or IBT)? So that It would suit the requirements of IL BON?

I'm planning to take PBT since I guess it's easier than then IBT. But if I took the PBT, would that also mean I have to take the CBT?

I really want to take the IELTS exam though I'm scared to take the risk. Besides my Aunt told me (who resides at IL) to take TOEFL.

Kindly read the thread and the links given by some posters there. Note that TOEFL is waived if the CES concluded that your program was taught using English books, w/c is the norm in PH and there were a lot that were able to get their eligibility letter from IL BON w/ just the CES given to tem by CGFNS if the Transcript was from a school in Ph since it is a well-known fact already that we use Book written in English. Even our local nursing books are in English.

In this case, I would also recommend to just do the CES (since you are presumed to have your TOEFL req't waived by the Boards) and just do the IELTS (Academic Module) for your Visa Screen Certification English Proficiency Exam req't.

I also see that you already found one thread about requirements for IL BON. And like we have been saying, it is waived already if coming from PH. One poster there already told you that it was waived for him and he only needed to do the CES if coming from PH.

Your choice on what to do but if you want to make it simple, just do the CES and do IELTS (Academic Module) for the Visa Screen Cert. req't. If you still want to do one of the TOEFL series for whatever purpose then that is your choice.
