I've found the same thing - positions are listing for start dates about two weeks out (or even immediately). I'm with Cross Country and when looking for new contracts have been "touching base" with my recruiter daily and sometimes getting updates from them later in the day when new contracts come in.
My best luck with contracts has come when I get my info sent as soon as the job posts (so it's at the top of that pile of faxes) so when things were really tough I gave my recruiter a list of states to which she could send my info as soon as jobs came in, then call me afterwards. (could always turn down after an interview if really not good). This worked out for my last several contracts.

Everyone who is traveling now, which company do you use? How long did it take you to get your contract. Feel free to PM me info if you don't want to answer on here. I am getting frustrated that I don't have a contract yet and I am ending in 3 weeks. I am not even receiving a phone call for interviews. Please help. Thanks!!
