I'm attending shoreline this coming spring 09 and I was wondering what are the first timer schedule is like? The reason for the inquiry is because i like to keep my job. Are first quarter students classes all done in the morning and get out mid afternoon? Any informatin will be helpful!

I don't know ALL of the particulars about the Spring schedule, but based on experience and what I can see posted online, I can tell you this much:
Unless things are VERY different this coming quarter, Monday and Tuesday mornings you will be in clinical at a LTC facility. Tuesday afternoon you'll be in class. Wednesday morning you'll be in class. Thursday either morning or afternoon you'll be in a lab. There's another lab you'll be in that I can't see the schedule for, so I don't know when you'll be in it (although for me a year ago it was on Thursdays, but at a different time than my other Thursday lab (one lab in the morning, the other in the afternoon).
The first couple of weeks are very front-loaded with extra skills lab sessions because you need to get up to speed before you start clinical around week 3, so the schedule is different for the first two weeks than for the rest of the quarter.
If you continue working, I strongly (read: STRONGLY) advise against working more than 24 hours/week max. And if possible, arrange to take the first couple of weeks of school off of work. You'll be glad you did.
You'll get much more information about all of this at your orientation session in a few weeks.

Hi everyone, so I think I'll be applying for next Winter since I don't think I'll have enough points yet to be competitive for fall quarter. I haven't had a chance to attend an info session yet, but I plan to attend one this month on the 12th.
I wanted to get some insight from past applicants. My questions are:
1.) Are applicants decided strictly on points? For instance, I have a couple mediocre grades from my science classes, but will still have about 113 points at the time of application based on other merits. Will Shoreline take notice of my "average" science grades, or will they just look at my overall points total?
2.) What was your guys' experience with the Compass testing? I'm mostly concerned with the math portion, as it has been about 5 years since I've taken any math class. Any recommendations on what I need to brush up on?
Thanks!
yes, striclty points NO EXCEPTION at all...maybe if you had the same points as another student then they would decide upon you based on who has the highest average gpa but other than that it is PURELY points.
Compass test was a breeze (although i've taken calculus so i'm a bit bias). You will do well in the algebra section if you review...there are plenty of sample tests and if you do well on there then you will most defin. do well on the compass (not making any promises though).
some questions include find the value of y for example,
y=4x x=2
so, y=4(2)=8
and some other stuff such as y=mx + b and so forth...so if you can do those stuff then theoretically you should be good.
I'm getting ready to apply to Shoreline soon. Does anybody know if there is a limit on how many times one can retake a prerequisite? I looked through the brochure and there doesn't seem to be any mention of it. So, my inclination is that there isn't a limit imposed?
When the point threshold was higher (in years past) it was very common to take classes twice to raise your grade for the point computation. I personally took Anatomy twice (hated my first prof, which really tanked my performance... LOVED my 2nd prof). So it's not generally a problem. Now, as an aside, if you took one of the prereqs, say, FIVE TIMES.... there are some other problems you might want to consider. :-)
Thanks, I understand what you mean.
I took anatomy twice as well, so that's why I was asking.:nuke: God forbid if I have to take it three more times.
Just a followup... I believe the prereqs are changing effective winter quarter, which is the quarter you're applying for starting in August. Look at the site and note the differences in the point generation from previous quarters. (there are FEWER prereqs, according to the new point system).
Thank you, Scott!
Yes, I went to a info session. They have decided to take away the multi-cultural component of the prereqs. For me, that is somewhat of a bummer since I received an A in it.
