I am attending Broward College in Davie,FL. I am so confused as to if the nursing program is for me. Everytime I turn around students are telling about new classes to take. The advisors are no help & am following degree audit. To give you a picture I never went to college before so this is my first time.
I have taken Math till algebra which is mat0024.
I have taken English till Enc1101.
Ethics,A&PI-A&PII with lab.
This semester am taking Chem for the second time, but still cant grasp it.
Winter I registered for Micro.
Due to financial struggles am wondering should I keep with it and the things am hearing about the program are not great so do I keep going?Am currently volunteering at a hospital in Ped.ER. I see the nurses there miserable.I like the kids.
Thanks for listening.

Hi,
I'm also a student at BC :)
I understand what you mean by not having much help form the regular advisors at BC. At BC if you need any nursing info you have to go to the Health Science Dept. I'm going to be completing my AA in Liberal Arts this term but I'm still working on a few pre- reqs for a nursing program. Not sure yet if I will stay at BC.
Anyways.....I spoke to someone at the Heath Scienes Dept and I got a list of Pre reqs for BC. They are:
Anat & Phys 1 &2
Anat & Phys 1 & 2 Lab
Chem 1032
ENC 1101
HCP0001
And you also have to submit your HESI A2 Test scores.
If you are planning to another school for nursing you will have to go online or to the school to look for the additional pre-reqs needed for that school. I have noticed that even other ASN programs have slightly different pre reqs.
Good Luck :)

Think about your dream job and then try to talk to people who have it. If you want to stick with nursing maybe you could consider being a school nurse.
Or you could go a different route and become an early childhood teacher or get a degree in social work.
Find a free online test for Myers Briggs personality profile. Think it is so helpful to identify strengths and weaknesses and try to find a career that fits you.
You may also consider taking classes somewhere else. I've had a great experience taking my prereqs at a community college. I love the small class sizes and teachers with hands on work experience. I'll finish up at a university, but I've found a program that's a good fit for me.
I got a D in high school chemistry and was afraid to take it in college. Before the class started I got Chemistry for Dummies from the library and it was so helpful to see the material presented in a different way. My college Chem teacher was excellent and I was able to do fine and have been well prepared for the related classes, like Physiology. Definitely recommend looking up potential teachers on RateMyProfessor.com A bad teacher makes any class bad; a great teacher makes any class great.
Good luck.
