UF BSN-DNP Schedules
Hi, I'm currently a BSN student in my 4th year. I want to become an advance practice nurse and I came across the BSN-DNP program from University of Florida. I live in Florida and I'm looking for DNP programs in the state. I live a couple hours away from Gainesville and I was wondering if the program offered many online classes with only the need to be on campus or clinicians a few days? Are there many commuting students? I would also like to know what does the part time or full time schedule look like when you are enrolled in one of these programs, particularly UF's. Thank you in advance. I was trying to look on a few schools websites, but none of them really had much information on schedules.

Buying New books from Amazon?
I love Amazon and I buy pretty much all my books for school from there. I go to a private nursing school so I think even the books are more expensive! Compared to my school's price on new books, I get them for about half price on Amazon and even more discounted if I buy used. I always like to get the exact book that is listed for the class including the edition. I buy them not too far from my class start date so that I'm sure they didn't change the book. I also only get the main book that is needed. I find that my school can list up to 6 books for one class only to find out that the professor only uses the main text book. After I start the class and I know what the professor wants and their style of teaching, I decided whether I need the guides or other supplemental books. This semester I saved a few hundred doing it this way! :)

Working while in nursing school
The way I judge that is by the amount of hours you personally need to study, prep and finish assignments for school. I work only part time and that's because I have to. I also have a child so that leaves me with less time to study when I am just home. I have class on campus 3 days a week and I stay in school almost all day when I'm on campus studying on my own and with my group. The other days I average about 4 hours of studying daily and I work at night about 4 hours. I also sleep on average 4-6 hours a night. I am very stressed and I'm considering taking out a loan for the beginning of next year since I will start clinicals so I think it will be getting even more time consuming. I feel like I'm burning the candle at both ends and I have to see how not to exhaust myself because I don't want to lose motivation. Like I said it all depends on your situation because I also have cohorts that have no kids and don't have to work and say they are over whelmed. They ask me and others who have kids and/or work how the heck we do it. I just thank God for keeping me going and giving me the strength for nursing school! So bottom line for me I would advise not to work if you are lucky enough not to have to work. If you have to, it is doable and has been done before :)

Med Surg and Pharm Together? Can it be done sucessfully?
Great to know it's doable! It just got me a little worried, when a few people that are there tell me that lots are failing. I wonder if its the way the classes are taught?

Med Surg and Pharm Together? Can it be done sucessfully?
Hello, I'm a current nursing student. I have a plan made out by my adviser and in it I have med surg and pharm being taken together in the same semester. I heard from some students ahead of me that most people taking this combo have failed or withdrawn b/c they felt it was too much. I noticed that if I take pharm before med surg separately it will take me longer to complete the degree. Has anyone taken these two successfully? Thanks :)

Starting NS Pre-Reqs Jan. Broward College.
Hi, I just started my science classes last week. I just have science classes to complete. Taking my first anat w/ anat lab and chemistry. So far all my science classes are being taken at downtown and I'm happy with my professors. I feel a lot better now that I have all my math classes completed. The only math like class I want to take just in case I decide to transfer is STA2023. Best of luck to all :)

To go on or stop
Hi, I'm also a student at BC :) I understand what you mean by not having much help form the regular advisors at BC. At BC if you need any nursing info you have to go to the Health Science Dept. I'm going to be completing my AA in Liberal Arts this term but I'm still working on a few pre- reqs for a nursing program. Not sure yet if I will stay at BC. Anyways.....I spoke to someone at the Heath Scienes Dept and I got a list of Pre reqs for BC. They are: Anat & Phys 1 &2 Anat & Phys 1 & 2 Lab Chem 1032 ENC 1101 HCP0001 And you also have to submit your HESI A2 Test scores. If you are planning to another school for nursing you will have to go online or to the school to look for the additional pre-reqs needed for that school. I have noticed that even other ASN programs have slightly different pre reqs. Good Luck :)

Thanks leandrito and good luck to you too :)

Class Withdraws
FIU is not my first choice because of distance. Miami is a bit far for me I'm not too worried now that I went on FAU's site and it says they want a 3.0 cum gpa (that's where I'm at now) and my pre req gpa so far is 3.8. I dont have any W's for my pre-reqs and I know they look at that more closely. You are right about the fight down here in South Florida. Everyone applying to a program is in the same boat with the amount of completion to get in. Btw leandrito, since you live in South Florida I think you might have heard about this new school called Chamberlain in Miramar. I'm curious about that school and am wondering if you or anyone else knows about their program or goes to that school.

Class Withdraws
Thanks for the replies. I just have regular W's no F's, but I just hear so many people say how hard getting into a nursing program is in South Florida! I'm currently working very hard to keep my pre-req's gpa as perfect as possible. It seems like I'm questioning every little thing now that I'm getting close to applying to a nursing program! I have my heart set on FAU so I'm crossing my fingers :)

Class Withdraws
Hi, This is my first post on this site and I'm happy I found this site! I'm currently attending Broward College and I'm scheduled to graduate this coming term with my A.A. After getting my A.A. I'm planning to apply to a nursing program. I'm thinking about FAU and FIU. I know BC has an RN program but I haven't had the best experience as a student; mostly because of how students are treated and I want to do a BSN right away. Anyways my questions to those who have applied to any nursing school in Florida......Do schools look at the amount of classes that have been withdrawn? Does that affect chances of being accepted? I have a about 4 classes that I had to withdraw from during my time in BC because I was working full time and took on too much. My GPA pretty high but this worries me. Thanks :)
