Tips for a young LPN student....please

Published

I am fresh out of high school and have started in an LPN program. It is an accelorated program...in 5 weeks we finished AHP116 & AHP117. I am the type of student who feels that anything less than an A is unacceptable. I got A's in both AHP classes but I know things are going to get harder. Does anyone have any tips on how to keep up with the rest of the program? Anything at all is welcomed.

THANK YOU

Hi there :D I'm straight out of HS too and I'm almost done my LPN program and heading towards my preceptorship and then into the dreaded licensing exam. I found writing cue cards helped a lot, I have a stack that I keep in a ring and I read it everywhere when I have the time. Lots of group studies and rewriting notes until it sticks. Also youtube, they have a lot of animations if you're visual learner.

Anyway good luck with the program and don't forget to have fun sometimes :)

Hi there,

I entered my LVN program at the ripe old age of 18. It was a HUGE attitude adjustment for me. I did not know how to be an independent learner. The high school days of very neatly organized lectures, being reminded constantly of pending deadlines and straightforward tests were long gone. I had difficulty with the idea that we can be questioned about diseases and medications that we have not learned in class. After some whining, I adapted.

If you ever think things are unfair and unreasonable, consider the possibility that it is your expectations need to adapt. Make the best of things. Bloom where you are planted.

I wish you the best and hope you will find as much growth and happiness in nursing as I have... and more!
