any tips?

for those of you who passed the test, do you have any suggestions for those who will be taking the test?

I just passed my state test today. I was so nervous my whole body was shaking but I told myself to calm down, breath and move slowly. My advice for you is always:

Introduce yourself and tell them why you're in their room.

Check their ID before before performing any skill.

Wash your hands before and after every skill.

Always screen the client for privacy for every skill.

Ask them if they need anything else before you leave.

Give them their call light.

Lower their bed for safety after every skill.

My tester was very tough, she was unfriendly and very rude. She failed a lot of people, but I passed because I kept these things in mind.

Good luck on your test.

great advice! i have cna clinicals next week - and test approx two weeks later. any advise on clinicals? you're the expert now! ;)

:balloons:congratulations on passing!!

For Clinicals..

You may feel slow at first, and it does take awhile to get used to residents and their pace of things. You learn to work that into your schedule.

Don't be afraid to ask for anything.

There's usually tons of other CNAs around to help...

For the test...

We only had to do the written test...it was pretty basic stuff! I probably could have passed without ever taking the course...

We didn't have to do any skills as testing, but that was by choice of the person giving the test. Our instructor did say that we should be prepared to do any skills if asked though.

Thanks SissyBoo!

The written I'm comfortable with. I feel, like you, that I could have passed without taking the class. Pretty common sense stuff.

Our state requires testing of 5 "clinical skills". Ugh! Just forgetting due to nerves is what I worry about there.

okay i posted this before i took the test.

i went into a panic attack and forgot a lot of things, like pulling the curtain, little things. i also had a "hard" evaluator.

just remember the basics and one thing i found that helped me when i used to play music on stage...think of something that will make you smile. inside jokes work really well. humor is the best way to break panic, i promise. other than that, be prepared. you will know if you know the skills.

Specializes in LTC.

Take everything slow and talk yourself through the task.

"I'm going to brush the teeth in gentle circular motions keeping an eye open for anything abnormal that I would need to report to the nurse." Do this as you are brushing someones teeth. I even talked my way through handwashing. It helps you remember the steps and it helps your tester know what you're thinking.
