Hey everyone! I just got accepted into a nursing program for next spring and was wondering if anyone has any tips for a new nursing student? Also I would appreciate if you have any nursing-orientated books to recommend. I'm just so excited to start and would like to get a head start!

My advice is to relax right now. Take a vacation, spend time with family/friends, do stuff you like (hiking, reading, etc). School will be upon you before you know it & leisure time will be fewer & farther between. Congrats on getting in!

I agree, it is a better idea to relax and enjoy the time you have left before the program starts. Nursing school is fun and exciting but also a lot of work and very exhausting so get as much self-care time in as you can before it begins. As far as some resources that you can buy (but I wouldn't start looking at them yet, just have them on hand for when the program starts) are the Saunders NCLEX exam review, the Davis success series for whatever classes you are taking first semester (probably pharmacology or fundamentals) and a good drug guide (I would recommend Mosby's). Again, don't start reading them yet, just have them ready if you want so that when the program starts you don't have to worry about waiting for them to ship or going out to get them.
Okay, thank you guys. I really appreciate it!

I would make certain you have plans for how you're going to handle different issues you may have (children, pets, bills, job). Make backup plans, for your backup plans, with another backup plan. Life will happen, things change, being able to roll on is vital to doing well. If you aren't very organized, now would be a good time to think about ways to improve that area. Nursing school is different than any other pursuit and being flexible is a big help.
Good luck!

Best advice yet ^. When you get there, be at peace with the chaos and have a "whatever they want me to do, I will do" attitude. Good luck.
