tips to getting a job out of state

Published

Hello,

I am graduating Dec 07 and want to move to San Diego. I have contacted recruiters and applied to a few jobs online already. One recruiter asked if I had plans to come and visit. I could, but is it wise to do that not knowing if I have any prospects...or is that a good way to get my foot in the door. I am trying to start early so that I can get a job where I want. Is anyone else applying out of state? Please help! Thanks.

How far away are you?

If it was me, unless I was close and was, in fact, planning a trip over there (for whataever the reason), I wouldn't go just to try to "get my foot in the door."

I'd explain my situation and inform them of when I would be moving, and attempt to set-up interview arrangements with them.

Good luck!

I thought it was tradition for the hiring company to fly you out for an interview (at least that's what happened at my old non-nursing job)? I would request they fly me out there. It shouldn't be on the interviewee. Good luck!
