I am currently working as a field RN/case manager in home health care and really think I would like to try case management in a hospital setting or with an insurance company. I have submitted several applications to both and tweaked my resume, but so far no interviews...Are there any classes I can take that might give me an edge? Did any of you find it difficulty to get into the field? I have an ADN, and am playing with the idea of going back to school for my BSN. Really looking to get out of direct patient care.

I have only been a nurse for 3 yrs and after working in the hospital for a little of 2 yrs I decided I want to go into case management. I was given the opportunity to do CM work with the Medicaid population since the pay isn't as great as most seasoned nurses would like. That experience has been invaluable and now I have offers from Aetna and Blue cross with less than a yr of CM experience.
Thank you for the input. I guess, like most specialties, I just need to try and get that first break. How do you like case management?
I love it because I am still able to utilize my nursing knowledge and help others but I am able to spend weekends and holidays with my family. I get the best of both worlds and I don't have to deal with body fluids lol.
