timeline on retrogression?

Thank you (suzanne) for the previous answer to my inquiry, May I know how long does this retrogression last I am a US RN with CGFNS IELTS and visa screen certificate, I also have a employer petitioning for me at california, my petition has just been filed at the uscis this month, thank you.

my case was completed last august 2007, right now i'm waiting for the nvc to ask again for another set of ds230 and waiting for my pd to be current. thank you for the reply.

That is a hard one to call, but do you actually have approval on the DS-230? Having a PD date from 2006 alone really does not tell me enough? Do you actually have complete approval on everything and are just waiting for a visa?

If you are working in a paid job, then I would probably recommend that you remain right where you are, but that is also dependent on where your file is and at what stage of completion.

Also depends on your employer that you signed with in the US as well, and what their conditions are in your contract.

Hi frens,

I cleared my nclex in june 2007 from ohio board. i have the pass letter but not able to get the liscense due to retrogression.

Please tell me how long is the pass letter valid for. Will I have to retake nclex as retrogression is still on.:nurse:

It should say on the letter if they require any information and b when. Like California will tell you 3 years. Is there anything on your letter? Alternatively you could contact the BON and ask

Hi Suzanne4 - if your out there can you please advise me what to do. I have read as much as I can on this subject but I have a few questions

I am Irish. I am a registered general nurse on the Irish register. I was born in Ireland but trained in the UK. - I am on the UK register as well. I have a BSc in Nursing and a Masters Degree too.

I am not working in the clinical area - I work as a teacher in a school - but about 18 months ago I did a Return to Nursing Course in the UK to keep me on the register there. I thought also at the time that it would make me more attractive to an American employer to have some recent clinical experience. After that, I passed my NCLEX in California. It has 18months to run before it expires - due to the fact that I have no US social security number. I have also the Visa Screen Certificate completed OK. If I could choose I would like to live in a big city and work in an ER department.

Reading the posts it looks like because of retrogression I haven't got a hope of getting a visa through in the next 18 months - would you agree?

Being an optimist however, I would like to have a go anyway. So whats the best way to get a US employer (quickley) on board for my petition? I do not want to go through a recruitment agency for this - would you advise that I use an immigration lawyer Stateside to speed things up?

Also is it advisable perhaps to tranfer my NCLEX test results from California to another US State before the 18month deadline comes arround to stop me having to do the thing again in 18 months and perhaps start the process from there?

Thanks for all the information you have provided so far. Living and working in the US has always been my dream (Sfo ahoy!) what would you say are my best options?

You are correct the likelihood on getting a visa in 18 months will be very slim to non however coming from Ireland you do qualify for the diversity lottery which may be worth trying. Remember though this is free so if you find anything that asks for money be wary) The best thing to do is apply to another state and meet their requirements for foreign trained nurse and request that Ca forward your NCLEX results to new state. Regarding finding a employer, that may be hard but try approaching hospitals in the areas you want to live and talk to them about petitioning you. With the current US economic recession it may be hard and you may have to contact many.

Hi Silerdragon - thank you for that.

Given that I have a visa screen cert as well as the NCLEX and I am not particularly stuck on where to work. Can you suggest a State which still supplies an hard copy licence without the SSN requirement? Somewhere urban would be preferrable where there are lots of ER options. Is New York still a SSN free zone as far as issuing a licence?

BTW I am trying to get onto the thread "A primer for all who want to work in the USA" but I just can't seem to get it to open. Any suggestions?

The primer thread is no longer available, that is why you can't open it. I can't really recommend a state to work as it will depend what sort of life you want ie weather, lifestyle etc. You could have a look at the links for the state nursing boards at the bottom of the page and see what meets requirements. At the moment the main thing is to protect your NCLEX results. NY does issue a license without SSN but you have to complete CVS and we haven't seen many employers in NY petition foreign nurses. We have had a few nursing students have issues finding employers when doing their OPT in NY and having to leave state.

Hi! I passed my NCLEX under the state of CAlifornia, but my employer is based in NY. They processed my CVS last year and was submitted to NY last january 09.. Hope I could get a license now.
