Specializes in E.R..

Hi, I have a question. I graduated in August, and began working in an E.R. at the end of August. The only position they had open was a weekend program, which I took. I have found that the weekend program is too hard when I have young kids at home. I am wondering how long I should stay before trying to switch to a different area, so that I won't have a hard time trying to get a job since I have limited experience time? I have 3 months into nursing thus far.

HR and dept policy vary from facility to facility.. Check out the policy where you work. Also, see what positions are open, there may not be anything, or anything you want or are qualified for, to go to.....

Do you necessarily want to switch to a different area, or just a different schedule? Have you talked with your NM about whether there are any other options for you there in the ED? I would start there and then look for other positions available within the same organization, so you wouldn't really be changing "jobs" (employers).

There are no positions available in the E.R. I would have to go to a different company due to there are no openings in the areas I am interested in transferring to and also the hospital I work at is a very small rural hospital that doesn't have a lot of variety or positions.
