Specializes in not qualified yet, ask me soon! x.

Hi

I am currently in the second year of my nursing degree. I hope to become dual qualified in peads also. I have had a read of some of the international threads, and I just wanted to know how long would it take for a UK citizen to immigrate to the US. I dont want to go with an agency, I plan on doing it all myself.

I was curious about the length of time it would take, if I tried to get a direct hire position..

Any info would be greatly appreciated

How long is a piece of string. unfortunately with retrogression ongoing you are looking at several years once you have completed requirements of state (UK training doesn't always meet requirements due to the training as you need hours in paeds, mental health, maternity as well as general both theory and practical) and found a employer and have approval of I140. Can be done direct but we are seeing less hospitals due to the long wait. I was doing it on my own and found a employer with no difficulty but this was a few years ago, however due to retrogression and dh getting a job in Canada we have moved here and love it.

So we are talking 3 years plus?

How long does it take to get to Canada?

Yes I would say you are looking at more than 3 years. Canada as long as you meet the requirements for foreign nurses then probably looking at approx 12 months, however employers do prefer at least 12 months nursing experience which you can get whilst applying to the provinces nursing college. Again though for Canada they require a generalist training so hours in the areas mentioned in previous post
