thrift shop scrubs?

Published

Hi there-

I'm starting a CNA course in September and need some scrubs. I have been advised by the lady who interviewed me to get them el cheapo because they're just going to get pretty dirty anyway. :wink2: So I'm thinking about trying to get some at the thrift shop! Cheap (under 6 dollars), and semi-fits me (I am five feet with an insanely short inseem). Is this wise? I personally don't mind wearing stuff from the thrift shop myself, but is it too not-sterile for an LTC environment?

Lastly, if thrift shop scrubs are a no-no, any advice on to where I can get some for under 15 dollars or so? It must be an actual store... my size varies by brand so I never shop online. Thanks for the help!

scrubs become expensive. So if they are going to get "beat " up I would definitely get them as cheap as possible. Just make sure you wash them....

I would recommend trying different brands and styles. I bought some "cheap" scrubs and they were so uncomfortable, the fabric made me itch...this was after repeated washings. I bought a pricey pair of pants when they were on sale/clearance, and 2.5 years later I still wear them, they look brand new and they are so comfortable. So the cheap ones weren't so cheap, as I gave them away.

Don't forget to look on ebay... I have bot lots of ten or twenty pieces for less than 20-50!! And they were in excellent shape! I wore some today to be honest!!

Nothing wrong in my opinion about buying uniforms (or clothes in general!) from an op-shop. They get washed before they get put on the shelf, you'll wash them when you get them home, so they're just as clean as someone washing their own when they get home from work every day!

Oh, and they don't need to be sterile, just clean. If they needed to be sterile then it would be hospital issued all the way, and they would only stay sterile in a sterile environment (ie- theatres)!

Either that, or I agree with trying them on in-store somewhere, and if they're cheaper online (often are if you buy in bulk) then order via the net

Happy shopping!
