The prior nurse said it to you verbally? I think you should have checked the order. It was fine telling the instructor the truth in my opinion.

Yes she told me verbally. I should of checked but more then anything I feel like I should of just taken the blame and believe in watching each others back. I was soo tired brain dead working last night I feel like I should switch to days

There's nothing wrong with you telling the instructor that you got the information from the prior nurse in report. Mistakes are made and the nurse being made aware that she gave you erroneous information is a good thing.

This is also a lesson for you to always check the orders.

I agree with everyone here: you did nothing wrong by telling the instructor what you were told by the prior nurse.

That being said...if the rate is different from the rate ordered, this is a med error. And you are liable for it as much the prior nurse is: she did give you the wrong info, but you should have checked the orders.

Hope everything works out for both you and your coworker.

You wrote on the mar what another RN gave you verbally without checking?

Seems dangerous

I never take another persons word on medications! Always look at your mar! It would not hold up in court if you told them you went by what the prior nurse said. Lesson learned always look at the mar and check your orders!
