Thought I failed the NCLEX

Published

I really, truly felt like I had failed the exam. It took me 233 questions and after the first 80 I felt like I had no clue to any of the answers. I was just trying to keep from crying the last two hours of the exam. By the time I was in my car, I couldn't even drive home right away, I was so upset. I spent an entire day checking for my CA Interim Permit to expire because I just knew I had failed. Found out early this morning that I had passed.

The main reason I'm posting this, is because I spent hours yesterday looking through the site's boards/postings to see other people's rough experiences with the NCLEX and to see if anyone felt the way I did but passed. It's probably the one thing that gave me any hope in my anxious and depressed state.

For anyone else out there that left the test feeling hopeless, just know that there's always a chance. One of my older nursing friends explained that she knows plenty of people who just get 'stuck' in the algorithm of the test. People who don't fall into the 'correct' pattern that the computer looks for in order to shut off your test. Some people may start out fine and get themselves into the difficult/'passing level' questions but the computer doesn't shut off and you end up somewhat like me - struggling with difficult questions, 50% of which you have no clue on, for the last 2 hours of your exam. This is just her theory, but it sure felt that way during my exam.

Just wanted to throw that out there for anyone else, like me, who is stalking the boards searching for hope.

Other information:

Studied using Kaplan primarily.

Took test 9/15/2016 for the state of California.

Results posted 2 days later, 9/17/2016 in the early morning (a Saturday btw).

Pearson Vue Trick (PVT) DID NOT work for me, got the 'bad pop-up'/failing indicator.

Also, random note: friends of mine who have been taking the California exam recently have been getting results in a few days if they passed or in a couple weeks if they failed.

So I took my exam on 8/22 haven't gotten any results yet so should I just give up hope and say that I failed???????????????????:nailbiting:

I believe in preparing for the worst but always hoping for the best. The California Board's Processing timeframe page indicates that they should have completed grading of tests that happened before September 1st. Try checking the BreEZe verification page to see if you're listed. Or are you from a different state?

How did you do the PVT? I have a friend who did the PVT got the bad pop up. Hoping to give her some hope!!

Different people say to do it different ways. Some say if you even get to the credit card screen it means you didn't pass, and others say you need to put in your card information and submit it before you see the 'pop-ups'. I tried both ways and never saw the magical 'good pop-up'. It doesn't accurately work for everyone, which means it doesn't work. :)

You can fail with a 'good pop-up' and pass with a 'bad pop-up', so the PVT is a waste of time.
