Those who want to get out of nursing..

Nurses General Nursing

what are you doing , or wanting, to do about it? Considering going back to school for another field? What field?

I am considering getting out, but not sure what to pursue. IT kinda interests me. Not sure what else I am capable of.I didnt mind nursing per se- it was the BS that we have to deal with- the liabilities( insurance can only go so far), short staffing- things that will NEVER change at this point of time. Anyone else have any thoughts? Thanks

perhaps we all could quit our jobs and open a resort for nurses?

definitely appears many of us are in the same situation. medicine has become business and nurses are unappreciated and nothing but replaceable pawns. not what i expected when entering this field.

i, too, love patient care. but have concluded i am the only one who will be watching out for me thus will do just that. the ceo's and managers are doing it. we should as well.

for years have felt unions would be of great benefit. there are those of you who think differently. however, i have worked per diem in unionized hospitals and have seen a difference in the treatment of nurses. overall, better staffing, and less b.s. pulled on nurses.

unfortunately, blackballing does exist when unions are even attempted to be initiated, and since the majority of us are women who substantially contribute to the income of our families, can not afford to take this risk. that is, without having a back up plan and a good lawyer.

what a tangled web we weave.

I fully understand the desire to get out of the profession. But, we have options that other fields don't have....like OTHER OPTIONS!!! There are other areas of nursing you can do that do not involve working with patients, working with other nurses, and all of the other BS that goes along with hospital nursing. I am also a massage therapist. I love doing that...but it just doesn't pay what nursing does, nor does it have the security. There are 100 different types of hospital jobs/areas you can work in...and if you don't like those, try non-hospital jobs...my best friend has worked as an insurance nurse for 15 years and loves it. Work in a school (the pay sucks, but the hours are great), work at a factory, a prison, do home care, or hospice work, do home IV therapy...there's so much more! You could hop from one to the next every six months until you retire and never get to do them all.

With so many people out of jobs these days we are fortunate that we are in a profession that still has a demand that keeps us working, and it's not going to change any time soon. Maybe nursing isn't for all....but I hate to see nurses give up without trying other nursing options when there are so many.

Nursing will never change. Thankless!

Yup 10 years after, with pandemic going on right now. Nursing is in a much worse situation! Short staffed pre pandemic period what more now?! Horrible staffing situation.
