Those who have started an independent agency...

Published

Hello,

I have been a CRNA for 6 years and am interested in getting more information about forming a group of independent CRNA's that contract ourselves out. I also hold an MBA from when I was younger and definitely have an interest in the business aspect of anesthesia. I have read of others on this board saying they are "netting" over $300k being a part of a practice. Can others chime in and attest to this? Obviously, its not all about the money but I would be interested what average compensation gross vs net for CRNA groups members are. FYI, I have never made under $200k before I started working and am trying to balance potentially starting my own group with some colleagues vs. signing another contract with a hospital.

Best,

Aaron

Hey, first off I am not a CRNA yet; however, I start school in August. I live in a rural area and know a few CRNAs that have independent practices and contracts. They all tell me they do better financially working for themselves 1099 than W2. It seems that they do about 200K a year but work half the year. They have done job sharing and two week on then two off. They love having 26 weeks off a year and make the same money as they use to. They love being solo and have the ability to exercise their autonomy to the full. My best advice is the find a good, stable, smart partner and go after a small contract. I know you have a MBA so you know this, but make sure you have clearly defined roles with your partner and a good contract between the two of you. Wish you the best!

Didn't you ask this on another forum as well? Why not just take the advice there from others who have done it?

Not with a know-it-all SRNA ;)

I simply asked if you had gained any insight somewhere else to share... if you got bad advice or not substantial enough? I'm not the one being a ''my way or the highway'' CRNA ;)

Aaron,

What state are you in. I'm interested as well.
